Job summary

Hanover County Government is seeking a Groundskeeper to maintain county grounds as part of the Career Development Program. The role includes safety checks, lawn care, and equipment upkeep to ensure safe, welcoming outdoor spaces for residents and events.

The Groundskeeper Ladder has three levels, and incumbents report to the Groundskeeper Supervisor. Weekend work is required during athletic bookings and special events; supervision may be provided at lead level.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required with experience using small tools.
Knowledge of general landscaping and standard safety practices preferred.
Experience or education in landscaping/horticulture is a plus.

Responsibilities

Performs safety checks of county grounds and recreation facilities.
Provides grounds maintenance such as mowing, edging, weed eating, seeding, and litter control.
Prepares facilities, grounds and equipment for recreational use and events; drags, marks and lines athletic fields.
Sets up and cleans up for events; performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
Works weekends during athletic booking season and assists with election-related tasks.
