Job summary

Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ seeks a Groundskeeper to perform routine landscape maintenance of interior and exterior spaces, operate mowers and related equipment, and support daily campus upkeep.

You will trim, plant, irrigation work, assist with events, and help maintain safety standards; a high school diploma, a valid driver's license, and English communication are required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have and maintain a current U.S. driver’s license.
  • At least 1 year of landscape maintenance experience with pruning, mowing, edging, and planting; irrigation knowledge a plus.
  • Able to communicate in English.

Responsibilities

  • Trim, edge, and mow lawn areas.
  • Grade lawns and sod installation.
  • Prune, plant, and stake trees and plants.
  • Install granite around plants.
  • Apply granular fertilizers to turf, trees, and plants.
  • Maintain landscape equipment including mowers, tractor, carts, and other power equipment.
  • Operate a variety of powered and non-powered equipment (trimmers, trucks, riding/walk-behind mowers, pole pruner, push spreaders, chainsaw, carts, ladders).
  • Irrigation repairs/adjustments of sprinkler heads, lateral lines, and valves.
  • Exterior housekeeping – sweeping, trash removal, and cleaning/painting fences, curbs, hydrants and handrails.
  • Event set-up and take-down as needed.
  • Cleaning exterior signs as needed.
  • Minor driveway/parking lot surface repairs as needed.
  • Assist other building maintenance specialists in performing tasks as needed.
  • Comply with University safety policy at all times.
  • Overtime will be required as needed

Job description

Summary

The Groundskeeper is responsible for routine skilled and unskilled maintenance of interior and exterior buildings and grounds, including the operation of motorized vehicles. The position reports to the Lead Groundskeeper.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Trimming, edging, and mowing lawn areas.
  • Lawn area grading/sod installation.
  • Pruning, planting, and staking trees and plants.
  • Installing granite, including detail around plants.
  • Applying granular fertilizers to turf, trees, and plants.
  • Maintenance of all landscape equipment including mowers, tractor, carts, and other power equipment.
  • Operating a variety of powered and non-powered equipment to include trimmers, trucks, riding/walk-behind mowers, pole pruner, push spreaders, chainsaw, utility carts, and ladder.

Education and/or Experience

High School diploma or equivalent; must possess and maintain a current U.S. driver’s license; at least 1 year of landscape maintenance required with knowledge of pruning, mowing, edging, and planting – irrigation knowledge a plus; able to communicate in English.
