Job summary

Franklin Group in Virginia Beach is seeking a Groundskeeper to maintain the community’s grounds and curb appeal. You will perform daily cleaning of common areas, care for landscaping, and assist with snow/ice prevention as directed.

Under the Maintenance Supervisor/Community Manager, you’ll manage supplies, follow OSHA safety policies, and participate in make-ready tasks when required. This hourly role requires physical stamina and reliable teamwork.

Qualifications

• Ability to read basic instructions and numbers is required.
• Physical ability to perform continuous outdoor tasks and lift up to 75 pounds.
• Work in all weather conditions with attention to safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Clean common, amenity and ground areas daily and maintain landscaping as instructed.
• Water, weed, rake, sweep and spread salt to prevent ice buildup.
• Keep community buildings and grounds clean and properly stocked.
• Assist with make-ready and miscellaneous duties as directed by supervisor.
• Maintain professional appearance and comply with safety policies.

Job Title: Groundskeeper

Supervisor: Maintenance Supervisor/Community Manager

FLSA Status: Non-exempt (Hourly)

JOB SUMMARY:

Maintains grounds of community in order to enhance and maintain its curb appeal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Clean common, amenity and ground areas on a daily basis. Water and upkeep community landscaping as instructed. Spread salt on public passageways to prevent ice buildup. Rake, sweep, shovel as circumstances warrant.
• Responsible for daily upkeep of the community buildings and grounds that includes cleaning and removing of trash.
• Responsible for the care, maintenance and inventory of all supplies and equipment owned by the community and/or the company.
• Assist with “make-ready” and/or miscellaneous duties when requested by the Maintenance Supervisor or Community Manager. Other miscellaneous duties as required.
• Responsible for maintaining the required community uniform and ensuring a professional appearance and behavior at all times.
• Operate within OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Act) standards and company safety policies at all times.
• Responsible for reporting unusual or extraordinary circumstances regarding the community or residents; initiates action to correct unsafe conditions.
• Responsible for courteous, efficient response at all times.
• Responsible for thorough knowledge of company policies.
• Responsible for seeking educational opportunities and self-improvement for personal growth and development.

Salary Range is $13.60 - $23.52 per hour

The base salary range displayed represents the expected minimum and maximum compensation for this role at the time of posting. Final salary offers are determined based on multiple factors, including the candidate's relevant experience, specific skills, qualifications, and type of property.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EQUIPMENT/MACHINERY/TOOLS:

Required to gloves, eye protective glasses/goggles and other personal protective equipment as tasks dictate. Must be knowledgeable and skilled in the safe use and maintenance of the following tools: Various wrenches, hammer, grips, saws, sledgehammer, snips, posthole diggers, wheelbarrows, dollies, hand trucks, buckets, jacks, step ladders, full ladders, shovel, and snow blower.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and basic numbers. Ability to speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide by 10's and 100's.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

TRAINING, CERTIFICATES, DESIGNATIONS:

Fair Housing must be completed within 1 day of hire. Preventing Sexual Harassment, Workplace Harassment and Drug Free Workplace courses must be completed within 7 days of hire.
