The Groundskeeper position reports to the Parks Superintendent and Parks Supervisors/Chiefs and will serve a key role in the daily operations and maintenance of City parks, sports fields, trails, open spaces, waterfront facilities, restrooms, and all other department associated work. This position will work with numerous departments, agencies, the local communities, and other groups daily while performing their daily tasks and responsibilities.
This position works daily on the maintenance and operations of City parks, sports fields, trails, open spaces, waterfront facilities, restrooms, and all other department associated work. While this position reports directly to the Parks Superintendent and other supervisors in the Parks Division, this position is expected to communicate, interact, and take joint direction from multiple other City Departments and/or groups. The daily work of this position requires an individual who is a self-starter, can work both independently and cooperatively, has good communication skills, and above all possesses a great attitude.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance, as there is a possibility for some of these positions work to be involved in light vehicle and equipment maintenance. Previous experience can be attributed to past employment or any other experience working on an/or maintaining vehicles and/or equipment.
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Possession of a valid Class "C" California driver's license may be required; may be required to obtain current American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Multi-Media and/or Standard First Aid certificate within twelve (12) months of employment.
Ability to wear and use air purifying respirators as regulated by Cal/OSHA. Must work a flexible schedule, which could include varying shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Travel from site to site; some exposure to dust and noise; some heavy lifting, standing, climbing; may work at heights; work in inclement weather conditions.
