Job summary

University of North Florida is seeking a grounds maintenance worker to perform turf and landscape upkeep, irrigation maintenance, and litter control. The role includes set up for special events and responding to campus maintenance needs.

The position operates under close supervision with duties assigned by a supervisor. Some responsibilities may require a valid driver’s license and compliance with university safety policies.

Qualifications

• Completion of ninth grade or an equivalent combination of education and experience per Florida Statute 112.219.

Responsibilities

• Mow turf and maintain landscape areas.
• Weed eating, edging asphalt and cement surfaces.
• Plant bed maintenance and irrigation upkeep.
• Equipment and shop maintenance.
• Landscape construction and special projects/events.
• Participate in event setups and campus maintenance emergencies.
• Raking leaves and prescribed burning (where applicable).

General Description / Primary Purpose:

This is work performing grounds maintenance and landscape installation duties including but not restricted to maintenance of turf, landscape, and irrigation; litter control; and set up for special events. Specific duties will be determined by the supervisor.

Job Function:

• Mowing
• Weed eating, edging asphalt and cement surfaces
• Plant bed maintenance
• Equipment/shop maintenance
• Landscape construction
• Special projects/events
  • Participate in special event set ups and other work
  • Assist with campus maintenance emergencies
  • Assist with new utilities installation and maintenance of existing utilities
  • Manages work orders
  • Raking leaves
  • Prescribed burning.
• This position is designated as a Tier 2 respondent for designated campus emergencies and events. In the event of a declared campus emergency, the position incumbent will make every effort to return to campus when directed.

Supervision Received:

Close supervision. The incumbent's work is reviewed by the supervisor for accuracy and to ensure instructions are being followed.

Required Qualifications

Completion of ninth (9th) grade or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Some positions may require possession of a classified driver’s license appropriate to a type of vehicle operated.
