Job summary

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years' experience in turf management and pesticide, herbicide, and fertilizer application; landscape care and IPM experience preferred.
  • Indiana State Chemist certifications and active licensing in Pesticide Applicator Category 3b and 7a preferred.
  • 1-3 years' experience operating, maintaining and repairing heavy lawn care equipment and irrigation systems.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain healthy, safe outdoor environments for areas including sidewalks, parking lots, grass and shrub areas, and athletic fields (where applicable).
  • Perform mowing, pruning, trimming, seeding, irrigation, and chemical applications as required.
  • Safely operate commercial equipment such as mowers, tractors, spreaders, aerator, sweepers, trimmers, snow gear and more.
  • Handle routine maintenance and repairs on equipment; arrange major repairs as needed.
  • Maintain irrigation systems with winterization and watering schedules; schedule athletic fields as needed.

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-3 years' experience in turf management and pesticide, herbicide, and fertilizer application; General plant health and care; Landscaping practices; Integrated Pest Management experience desired.
  • Indiana State Chemist certifications and active licensing in Pesticide Applicator Category 3b and 7a preferred.
  • 1-3 years' experience in operating, maintaining and repairing heavy lawn care equipment and irrigation systems.

Primary Job Function:

To perform groundskeeping and maintenances tasks to maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment conducive to the educational process.

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Maintains a healthy and safe environment of all assigned exterior areas, including sidewalks, parking lots, grass and shrub areas, and (if stationed at the high school) athletic fields.
  • Maintains all areas of the grounds in a condition that is conducive to their intended use, including mowing, pruning, trimming, seeding, irrigation, and chemical applications as required.
  • Safely and efficiently operates commercial equipment, including, but not limited to: zero-radius turn mowers, front mower deck tractors, seed and fertilizer spreaders, turf aerator, pull-behind sweepers, string trimmers, snow blowers, chain saws, truck-mounted snow plows and salt spreaders.
  • Performs maintenance tasks as required to assure a safe, healthy and efficient environment for the students and staff, including trash and debris pick-up, snow removal, and salt applications.
  • Initiates Work Orders through Supervisor for any items requiring repair or replacement that are not within the scope or ability of the position.
  • Requisitions all supplies necessary to properly perform the duties of the position.
  • Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on any equipment operated, and arranges for major repairs through the position's Supervisor.
  • Maintains irrigation systems in assigned area including proper winterization measures and watering schedules (high school only)
  • Maintains a schedule of events so that all athletic fields may be maintained as required (high school only)
  • Prepares the competition fields and surrounding areas as required for scheduled competitions, including layout and painting of any required field markings (high school only)
  • Assures that the natural and artificial athletic fields are cleaned and free of debris before and after all competitions in conjunction with custodial operations (high school only)
  • Assists the Director of Buildings & Grounds Director immediate supervisor in research and recommendations for long-range facility improvements and preventative maintenance related to grounds keeping.
  • Participates in appropriate professional organizations and appropriate professional development opportunities.
  • Follows other directives from immediate supervisor and the Director of Buildings and Grounds that serve to improve services to the students and patrons of the Crown Point Community School Corporation.
