Job summary

Sun Communities is seeking a Resort Groundskeeper to maintain landscaping, mow lawns, weed, plant flowers, and support a clean, visually appealing community for residents. You will operate tools and equipment and follow safety procedures daily.

If you have a High School Diploma or GED and 6 months in groundskeeping, you’ll fit. A valid driver’s license and ability to work outdoors in varying weather are required. On-call availability is also needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 6 months in groundskeeping experience in apartment/manufactured housing industry preferred.
• 6 months in general grounds maintenance knowledge required.
• Valid driver’s license is required.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures.
• Ability to work after normal business hours / on-call.
• Proficient with hand tools, power equipment, and commercial machinery.

Responsibilities

• Ensures community is presentable and adheres to curb appeal standards.
• Maintains community vehicle and equipment.
• Picks up trash and empties containers in common areas daily.
• Inspects irrigation system and performs repairs as needed.
• Maintains grounds: weeds, plantings, mulch, hedges, and trees; performs other lawn care tasks.
• Maintains pools by testing chemicals if applicable.
• Follows safety procedures and reports maintenance issues to the manager.
• Operates resort vehicles to perform groundskeeping duties across property.
• Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Overview

Groundskeepers are responsible for a range of landscaping, grounds maintenance, and (where applicable) snow removal duties. They routinely mow lawns, weed, plant flowers, plow snow, and remove debris to ensure community grounds are clean, well maintained, and visually presentable. They also support a positive resident experience by delivering courteous, responsive customer service

Job Duties

• Ensures community is presentable at all times and adheres to Sun’s curb appeal standards (Essential)
• Maintains community vehicle and equipment (Essential)
• Picks up trash/debris from common areas and streets on a daily basis. Empties common area trash containers as needed (Essential)
• Inspects irrigation system regularly to ensure it is working properly; repairs as needed (Essential)
• Regularly treats weeds for weed control, weed whip, rake leaves, plant flowers/shrubs, spread mulch/wood chips/stones, trim shrubs and hedges, cut down and remove tree limbs damaged by adverse weather conditions. Performs other lawn care services as needed (Essential)
• If applicable, maintains community pool(s) by testing chemical levels and adjusting appropriately
• Follows safety procedures while performing duties
• Reports all community maintenance issues and concerns identified while performing daily duties, to the manager
• Driving is an essential function of the role and a business necessity as the Resort Groundskeeper must independently complete various tasks such as safely operating resort vehicles to perform groundskeeping duties, traveling across streets and common areas to pick up trash daily, transporting power equipment and commercial machinery for landscaping maintenance and travel within the property and to nearby locations as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (Required)
• 6 months in previous groundskeeping experience in the apartment or manufactured housing industry (Preferred)
• 6 months in demonstrated knowledge and experience in general grounds maintenance techniques (Required)
• Ability to endure fluctuations in temperatures as working conditions require constant outdoor work
• Ability to respond to business needs after normal business hours.
• Ability to work an on-call schedule
• Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to use email and the internet
• Must have a valid driver's license
• Ability to work well independently as well as on a team
• Proficient skills in operating various hand tools, power equipment, and commercial machinery
