Job summary

Florida State University Grounds Department is seeking a Groundskeeper to maintain university landscapes across assigned zones. The role involves mowing, edging, turf maintenance, and debris removal to keep campus grounds clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing.

You will assist with planting shrubs/trees, resodding, and operating grounds equipment while ensuring proper maintenance and reporting issues to supervisors. This USPS position emphasizes safety and reliability in daily tasks.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a 9th Grade Education.
• Valid Florida or Georgia driver's license Class E or the ability to obtain one upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Mow, edge, rake, mulch, power blow, weed eat, water plants to maintain safe, clean and attractive university grounds.
• Remove debris, leaves, trash and spread landscape materials like pine straw, bark, or rocks to keep areas presentable.
• Assist in planting shrubs and trees and maintain turf areas with push mowers to keep campus landscaping attractive.
• Operate and maintain grounds equipment safely; report maintenance issues to supervisor and perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Responsible for groundskeeping maintenance tasks within zones on Florida State University properties as assigned to consistently maintain a safe, clean, sustainable, and attractively landscaped environment for the students, faculty, and staff of our institution.

Performs groundskeeping tasks such as mowing, edging, raking, mulching, power blowing, weed eating, pulling weeds, light pruning, and watering plants. Responsible for debris removal, leaf removal, trash pickup and other tasks to keep grounds clean and presentable. Maintains areas by spreading landscape materials such as pine straw, bark, or rocks.

Assists with landscaping tasks such as planting shrubs and trees. Assists in maintaining turf areas by utilizing push mowers to ensure an attractively landscaped environment on campus. Prepares landscaped areas with soil excavation, turf removal and resodding.

Safely operates and maintains grounds equipment to ensure the health and appearance of university grounds. Ensures that all manual and power equipment is in proper working condition and reports maintenance problems to the supervisor. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor or higher authority.
