Job description
This position is responsible for complete general landscape maintenance of the New College of Florida campus.
Examples Of Duties
Operates groundskeeping equipment such as a utility cart, mower, edger, blower and line trimmer. When required, operate a dump truck or tractor. Ensures equipment is kept clean after each use and reports any maintenance issues to the supervisor. Duties include; mowing turf, edging turf areas, blowing sidewalks and parking lots, line trimming landscape areas.
Weeds, rakes, irrigates, prunes and applies mulch to trees, shrubs and landscape beds.
Polices grounds, picks up and removes debris, trash, litter, downed branches. Clears drains and reports any irrigation issues, vandalism, graffiti or other concerns.
Digs and plants shrubs, trees and annual color.
When required, and as directed by the supervisor, apply fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides with a backpack sprayer, power sprayer or spreader.
Maintains surface water drainage ditches, ditch banks, retention ponds, catch basins, culvert pipes and drains as required to ensure proper flow of water.
Participates in instructive and infield training programs.
Requires manual labor outside in all types of weather conditions.
Preventive and corrective maintenance of landscape, turf shrub, tree and hardscape areas.
Designated as essential mission critical personnel. Required to respond to calls for emergency work 365 days a year after regular business hours, on weekends or when the campus is closed. It may also be required to remain on campus throughout emergencies such as hurricanes and flooding.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of the ninth grade.
Possess a valid state of Florida driver’s license.
Must obtain within six months of hire date a State of Florida, Department of Agriculture, Limited Lawn and Ornamental Pesticide Spray License.
Knowledge of groundskeeping techniques.
Skill in operating a variety of groundskeeping maintenance equipment and tools.
Ability to work with others and communicate effectively; and to follow written and verbal instructions.
