Job summary

The Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, FL, a department of Florida State University, seeks a Groundskeeper to maintain the campus grounds, including edging, mulching, gardening, and debris removal.

Responsibilities include weed control, transplanting, basic landscape renovations, and assisting Facilities staff. The USPS position requires a valid Florida driver’s license and the physical ability to perform demanding tasks; schedule is Monday–Friday with potential overtime.

Qualifications

  • Ability to meet physical requirements including lifting 50 pounds, walking long distances, working from heights, and enduring extreme weather.

The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art is located in Sarasota, Florida, and is a department of Florida State University.

Responsibilities
  • Performs campus groundskeeping tasks such as edging, raking, mulching, power blowing, light pruning, trimming spent blooms and watering plants. Identifies and removes weeds from flowerbeds, gardens, planting areas, and pathways, ensuring the removal of roots to prevent regrowth.
    • This includes hand weeding and the use of tools like hoes or weed pullers.
  • Transplants plant/flower materials, assists with minor landscape renovations, to include soil excavation and removal.
  • Responsible for debris removal, leaf removal, trash pickup and other tasks to keep grounds clean and presentable. Maintains areas by spreading landscape materials such as shell, bark, or rocks.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned that support museum operations and provides general assistance for the Facilities department at the museum as needed.
Qualifications
  • Completion of 9th grade or higher
    • Please note that due to the need to use golf carts on The Ringling grounds, applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid Florida Driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to hire.
    • Driver's permits are not acceptable.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements as determined by position, including the ability to lift 50 pounds, walk long distances, work from heights, and work in extreme weather conditions.
