Job Duties

Under the general supervision of the Grounds Superintendent or Sr. Lead Groundskeeper, the GROUNDSKEEPER maintains grounds and landscape duties around eight residence halls, four dining commons, and five residential apartment complexes. The position may also be assigned other duties to accomplish the operational needs of the department.

Responsibilities are divided into the following time: percentages:

  • 70% Landscape & Installation – Operates equipment such as small riding mowers, hand mowers, edgers, power sweepers, hedge clippers, roto‑tillers, blowers, chain saws, etc. Maintains and cares for plants, shrubs, trees, hedges, flowers, and lawn areas. Performs mowing, edging, trimming, pruning, irrigation, installation of new landscaping and turf, spraying with pesticides and herbicides, maintenance of automated irrigation systems.
  • 20% Repair & Maintenance – Removes trash from parking lots, landscaped areas, bike racks, under stairways, and gardens. Handles debris, loads/unloads truck and electric off‑road vehicle, lifts materials, uses tools such as augers, rakes, shovels, hammers, wrenches, saws, pruning shears, ladders, mowers, etc. Performs minor equipment adjustments and repairs sprinklers and irrigation lines as needed.
  • 10% Safety & Training – Participates in staff training and development workshops, retreats, and meetings as determined by the unit. Implements safety rules, follows the 20‑minute work rule, affirms the educational equity plan, and supports the unit’s strategic plan.
Required Qualifications
  • 1‑3 years of grounds or maintenance experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma.
Special Conditions of Employment
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Must pass a satisfactory criminal history background check.
