Job summary

Duval County Public Schools seeks a Grounds keeping and landscaping worker to maintain grounds and athletic fields, operate light equipment, and assist in project tasks. This role involves mowing, trimming, planting, and trash pickup across school campuses in Jacksonville, FL.

Responsibilities include maintaining play areas, hedges, trees, and fields; driving trucks for materials; and adhering to safety procedures and licensing requirements, including a Florida Class E license and First Aid/CPR

Qualifications

• Knowledge of grounds maintenance work.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English at the 8th grade level.
• Ability to operate small power lawn mowers, chain saws and other light equipment.
• Valid Florida Class E driver's license and First Aid/CPR certification during probation.

Job description

Grounds keeping and landscaping work. Maintains equipment. This class lies below that of Tractor Operator.

Essential Functions

1. Cleans, plants, fertilizes, sprinkles, mows, edges, and otherwise maintains grounds and play areas.

2. Trims hedges and rakes leaves.

3. Polices and maintains grounds and picks up trash.

4. Plants trees and shrubbery.

5. Assists in laying out, reconditioning, and readying athletic fields, entailing sodding as necessary.

6. Drives trucks for hauling sand, fill and other materials.

7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Licensing:

A valid Florida Class E driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class. First Aid & CPR certification must be obtained prior to completion of the employees probationary period and maintained during employment in this class.
