Job summary

Daytona State College is seeking a grounds maintenance worker to care for campus grounds, operate lawn machinery, and perform routine landscaping tasks across multiple campuses.

Responsibilities include mowing, trimming, weed control, debris cleanup, and light equipment maintenance. Must have reliable transportation and a high school diploma or GED to apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 6 months of landscaping/grounds maintenance experience or equivalent heavy equipment experience.
• Must have own transportation to report to other campus locations.

Responsibilities

• Mows, cuts, trims, edges, weeds; maintains College grounds.
• Operates lift/bucket truck to trim trees up to 30 feet.
• Cleans; empties trash and hauls to dump for disposal.

Job description

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Six (6) months of landscaping and grounds maintenance experience or experience operating heavy machinery and tools.
• Must have own transportation to report to other College campuses as assigned.

• Mows, cuts, trims, edges, weeds and maintains College grounds. Operates lift/bucket truck to trim trees up to 30’. Performs other landscaping tasks as directed.
• Empties trash into truck and hauls to dump for disposal.
• Collects recycling materials such as newspapers, glass, aluminum and metal and prepares for delivery.
• Operates blower to clear debris from sidewalks, parking lots and other areas.
• Maintains plants by weeding and spraying pesticides and fertilizers. Plants shrubbery, trees, and flowers. Prunes and trims trees and shrubbery.
• Performs maintenance and minor repairs of grounds equipment. Informs supervisor if equipment needs advanced service.
• Drives College vehicles and operates golf carts and light trucks to retrieve/return supplies, equipment, tools, etc.
• Attends staff meetings to exchange information. Attends professional seminars and/or conferences to improve professional skills.
• Gathers, verifies, and maintains information to support periodic and special reports documenting activities and events for assigned area.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned and directed by the President or their designee.

• Must be able to follow oral and/or written communications.
• Must have computer knowledge to clock in/out and view other personnel related information.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
