Job summary

The City of Rochester (NY) is seeking a seasonal grounds maintenance worker to perform manual upkeep of municipal parks and cemeteries. You will trim hedges, mow lawns, clean up litter, and operate various grounds equipment under supervision.

Some tasks involve grave-site preparation and headstone foundations. Three months of full-time paid experience in exterior grounds maintenance is required, with residency in the city at time of application.

Qualifications

• Three (3) months of full-time paid experience (or its part-time equivalent) in a position related to exterior maintenance of grounds, plantings, or recreation areas.

Responsibilities

• Trims hedges, and prunes trees, using hand tools.
• Mows lawns, using hand or power-driven lawnmower.
• Cleans up glass and litter.
• Empties trash receptacles.
• Repairs and paints benches and tables.
• Operates a variety of grounds maintenance equipment (mowers, leaf and snow blowers, sod cutters, string trimmers, etc.).
• Performs minor preventative maintenance on play apparatus, and other park or cemetery equipment.
• Removes snow from walkways, steps, and driveways.
• May assist in preparing, digging, and filling of grave sites.
• May assist in preparing and setting foundations for headstones.
• Direct supervision is received from higher level personnel. Related work is performed as required.
