The State of North Carolina seeks a Groundskeeper for the North Carolina School for the Deaf. The role involves maintaining grounds, supervising team members, and ensuring the health of plants. Salary is dependent upon the education and experience of the selected candidate.
This is a year-round, skilled position requiring work experience in planting, cultivation, and care of shrubs, trees, plants, and grass in yard and surrounding areas of state buildings and institutions.
The North Carolina School for the Deaf (NCSD) is a residential school that provides Pre-K, elementary, middle, and high school programs for students between the ages of 4 and 22 who are deaf or hard-of-hearing from 47 of North Carolina's 100 counties. NCSD offers an inclusive and appropriate learning environment where children can develop to their maximum potential, offering academic, vocational, communication, social, emotional, and independent living skills. The school also provides after-school programs with team sports and clubs. NCSD operates on a regular academic year, Sunday afternoon through Friday at 1:00 p.m., with support services and administration operating year-round.
The primary purpose of this position is to determine the care and treatment necessary to maintain grounds and shrubs in good condition. The role involves consulting with a supervisor, providing updates on treatment plans, and addressing non-routine problems related to plant care and landscape management. Work may include supervising a small team of employees. The position is evaluated based on the appearance of the grounds and may require assisting other staff to meet school property and program needs.
