Job summary

Houston ISD is seeking a grounds maintenance worker to perform year-round grounds tasks, operate mowing and utility equipment, and care for flower beds and outdoor spaces at the district facilities in Houston, TX. The role may involve maintaining recycling center and garden shed, assisting with plants, fish, animals, and beekeeping activities during breaks.

Apply supervision is direct. Candidates should have basic reading and writing skills and less than 6 months of experience in similar tasks;

• May assist the beekeeper with the beehives, which is necessary for pollination of the gardens.

Job description

Under direct supervision, cuts grass, repairs damaged lawns and prunes trees and shrubs. Lays out and tends flower beds or other decorative vegetation. Maintains driveways and parking lots. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance on gardening and grounds equipment. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

-Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noise, chemicals, etc. Ability to carry and/or lift 45 pounds or more.
