Baltimore City Public Schools is seeking a maintenance worker to perform manual and semi-skilled tasks in grounds and athletic field upkeep at school facilities. Responsibilities include repair work, lawn and turf care, fence maintenance, and snow removal as needed.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, with preferred prior landscape or construction experience. It offers full-time hours with union benefits and a salary range disclosed by the district.

• Drags, spreads, levels playing surfaces; fertilizes, aerates, seeds, and waters fields.
• Clears areas; removes debris and hazardous plants.
• Erects and maintains fences.
• Operates grounds equipment and trucks; participates in snow removal.

Performs manual and semi-skilled work in the development, repair, and general maintenance of grounds and athletic fields at school facilities. Work involves general grounds maintenance, such as concrete, asphalt, and fence repairs, athletic field and playground maintenance and repair, tree removal/pruning, and snow removal. Works various shifts, scheduled overtime and responds to emergencies outside of normal working hours and holidays as needed. The position is considered essential personnel for emergency situations, including inclement weather conditions.

Essential Functions

• Assists in the repair and general maintenance of grounds and equipment.
• Assists in maintenance and repair of playgrounds equipment.
• Performs maintenance and repairs on natural grass and artificial turf.
• Prepares athletic grounds for games, meets, and athletic contests. Drags, spreads, prepares and levels playing surfaces. Fertilizes, aerates, limes, seeds and waters fields.
• Clears areas and swales by falling trees and removing debris and removing poisonous plants.
• Erects, repairs, and maintains chain link, and wood fences.
• Operates equipment such as air hammers, compactors, mulchers, and motorized lifts, mowers, tractors, and other grounds care equipment/operates truck with trailer.
• Participates in snow removal.
• Assists in loading, unloading, and delivering, machinery and equipment.
• Digs and backfills holes and trenches.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, administrative regulations, and professional standards.

Minimum Salary 20.03

In accordance with Maryland law, City School is required to share the position salary ranges in its entirety. Please note, this is not the hiring range. The hiring range for this position is ($20.03 - $22.54)
