Job description

As a Grounds Maintenance Technician II, you will lead and motivate a team of 2-3 Grounds Maintenance Technician I team members. Your focus will be on maintaining and enhancing outdoor spaces through tasks such as mowing, trimming, and caring for trees, shrubs, plants, and turfgrass. You will play a key role in shaping our outdoor environments.
  • Provide input for the performance evaluation of Grounds Maintenance Technician I positions and resolve minor complaints; major issues are referred to the Grounds Maintenance Landscaping Supervisor.

  • Perform sowing, transplanting, fertilizing, watering, installing new plants per plans, and maintaining flower beds through pruning, weeding, mulching, fertilizing, and spraying.

  • Assist in applying herbicides, insecticides, and other chemicals to turf or plants.

  • Maintain lawns and grass areas, plant flowers and bulbs, transplant as needed, and participate in debris removal and tree cutting as required.

  • Operate equipment such as zero turn mowers, backhoes, skid steers, tractors, trucks, sprayers, leaf blowers, weed eaters, and edgers.

  • Participate in erosion control, irrigation, drainage, and pond maintenance activities.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, four years of groundskeeping or landscaping experience, or an equivalent combination. Certification by the North Carolina Pesticide Board as a Licensed Pesticide Public Operator is required within six months of hire. Preference is given to candidates with crew leadership and irrigation experience.
  • Knowledge of horticultural practices, pruning, spraying, and plant maintenance.
  • Knowledge of landscape equipment and tools.
  • Understanding of plant collection and health assessment.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and develop good working relationships.
Conditions of Employment: Driving is essential. A valid NC driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required. Out-of-state licenses must be converted within 60 days.
