Job description

JOB TITLE: Grounds Maintenance Operative

Location: RAF Fairford

Salary: Competitive

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday

What you’ll do:

As part of a busy team, the Grounds Maintenance Operative will carry out various horticultural duties to support contract operations, including grass cutting, hedge trimming, spraying, and general grounds maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Grounds Maintenance: Perform routine and specialized tasks such as litter picking, mowing, strimming, hedge cutting, spraying, and pruning following best practices.
  • Equipment & Site Management: Maintain cleanliness and good condition of vehicles, machinery, tools, and work sites. Report damages or losses promptly.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work effectively with team members and communicate clearly with managers and colleagues for smooth workflow.
  • Compliance & Procedures: Follow company procedures and use technological solutions for recording work activities.
  • Attendance & Appearance: Maintain consistent attendance and wear appropriate corporate clothing.
  • Health & Safety: Comply with health and safety policies, report incidents, and assess work areas for hazards.
  • PPE & Risk Management: Use PPE correctly and follow risk assessments and COSHH guidelines for safety.
  • Continuous Improvement: Seek opportunities for process improvements and participate in training to develop skills.
Innovation & Efficiency:

Propose ideas to improve work methods and reduce waste, aiding in cost control.

What we’re looking for:
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
  • Experience in operating machinery and vehicles safely.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Understanding of health and safety practices.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Skills and Knowledge:
  • Experience in grounds maintenance.
  • Horticultural qualifications.
  • Spraying qualifications (PA1 & PA6a).
