Job summary

The State of Oklahoma is seeking a Laborer I to perform unskilled to semi-skilled manual labor and general maintenance duties at the Lawton/Ft. Sill Veterans Home. This part-time, temporary role involves assisting skilled trades and carrying out routine grounds and building maintenance tasks.

Proficiency in English is required and some positions may require a valid Oklahoma driver’s license. Typical duties include mowing, trimming, moving materials, cleaning, and custodial tasks.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of tools, equipment, methods and practices of general building and mechanical trades.
• Ability to follow simple oral instructions and perform heavy manual labor.
• Proficiency in English to perform essential functions.
• Some positions may require possession of a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Crops grass, weeds, trees and brush; cleans culverts, drains and ditches; moves, loads and unloads materials, supplies and equipment; hauls or carries sand, lumber, asphalt and cement or other materials; occasionally operates forklift or tractor.
• Assists skilled craft workers by carrying materials and tools, picking up materials from suppliers or performing unskilled tasks, such as mixing concrete or mortar, digging holes and tearing out walls; moves furniture and heavy equipment.
• Digs post holes and ditches; mows lawns, trims shrubs, rakes grass and trash, sweeps walks and cleans rest rooms; performs custodial duties.
• Performs other related duties as assigned consistent with responsibilities of the position and agency operations.
