Job summary

The Citadel in Charleston, SC seeks a Grounds Maintenance Specialist to maintain the President's residence grounds and support event setups. The role reports to the Grounds Division Chief and requires skilled landscape maintenance, irrigation, and tree care.

Responsibilities include lawn care, pruning, mulch projects, fertilization, pest control, and coordinating large outdoor events. Valid SC driver's license and pesticide license are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years direct landscape, maintenance or groundskeeping experience.
• Two years in carpentry, plumbing, electrical repair or painting or related building maintenance.
• Proficiency with landscape equipment and manual tools, plant and turf care, pest management, irrigation and tree care.
• Valid South Carolina driver’s license.
• Pesticide Applicator License.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain grounds through mowing, edging, weed eating, blowing, raking and leaf pickup.
• Perform tree work and prune shrubs; oversee large removals and mulch/ sod projects.
• Apply fertilizers, herbicides and insect control products.
• Maintain and repair fountains and irrigation systems, including sprinkler heads and clocks.
• Prepare grounds for events and dignitary visits; set up indoor and outdoor events.
• General household maintenance and furniture movement as needed.
• Track expenses using work orders and requisition system.
