Job summary

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in Charleston, seeks a Building/Grounds Specialist III in the Facilities & Engineering department. Under limited supervision, you will apply pesticides and fertilizers, maintain inventory, assist with greenhouse care and plant setups for college events.

The ideal candidate holds a high school diploma with two years' grounds keeping experience, knowledge of pesticides, equipment calibration, and safe storage practices, and a valid SC driver's

Qualifications

• Knowledge of chemical and physical properties of pesticides.
• Knowledge of pesticide application, equipment calibration and storage equipment.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain all required records.
• Ability to assist with operation of college owned greenhouse.
• Ability to perform basic PM on equipment.
• Must be able to bend, stand, kneel and carry up to 50lbs.
• Must have a valid SC driver's license.

• Application of pesticides and fertilizers to turf grass, flowers, ornamental shrubbery, trees and other landscaped areas as needed.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of pesticide storage shed and all equipment related to application of products.
• Assist with the care and maintenance of a greenhouse and plant propagation.
• Assist with the plant setups for college events.
• Will manage the grounds pesticide storage shed by maintaining accurate inventory and SDS records for all products stored therein.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma and two (2) years of grounds keeping experience directly related to the area of employment. Knowledge of the chemical and physical properties and usage of all classes of pesticides. Knowledge of pesticide application, equipment calibration and storage equipment. Ability to fully understand all labels and labeling related products. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain all required records. Ability to assist with the operation of college owned greenhouse. Ability to perform basic PM on equipment related to job. Must be able to bend, stand, kneel and carry up to 50lbs. Must have a valid SC drivers license or be able to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications

Employee must be a licensed SC pesticide applicator in CAT3, or have the ability to become licensed within six months of hire. Considerable knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to pesticide rules and regulations.
