Job summary

Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge is seeking a Horticultural Attendant to perform labor to maintain grounds, operate power and hand equipment, and assist with irrigation and plant care. Duties include pruning, chemical application, litter removal, and seasonal plantings.

You'll work outdoors in various weather, with overtime and weekend work as needed; may use mowers, trimmers, blowers, sprayers, and other landscape tools.

Qualifications

• One year of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping.
• Six semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• 50% - Operation of power riding mower (25HP or less), trimmer, edger, blower, hedger, and related equipment to maintain grounds, sidewalks, plazas, and building perimeters.
• 25% - Apply chemicals to control weeds and pests, fertilize soils, mulch beds, and assist with planting and litter removal.
• 10% - Assist with irrigation work, trenching, drainage, and minor concrete repair as needed.
• 10% - Perform inspections on mobile equipment and vehicles; change blades and tires; assist with preventative maintenance.
• 5% - Perform related work and support with special events and cleanup.
