Job summary

  • Public operator's I.D. card for turf pesticide control from the Illinois Dept. of Agriculture and Bureau of Environment preferred.
  • Ability to work under difficult conditions including inclement weather, and hazardous conditions.
  • Valid Illinois CDL driver license required or must obtain within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs and maintains Quad Cities Campus roadways, lots, and pathways.
  • Performs all outdoor grounds maintenance, mowing, irrigation, landscaping, pest disease control measures; inclusive of all trees, shrubbery, plants, etc.
  • Maintains a valid CDL Illinois driver’s license.
  • Operates power equipment, heavy equipment, and hand tools while observing safety procedures.
  • Performs snow and ice removal and salt spreading during winter months.
  • Installs and repairs sod; seeds; applies fertilizer, herbicides, fungicides and insecticides.
  • Coordinates and plans moving of College equipment; assembles equipment as needed.
  • Maintains inventory and orders supplies.
  • Keeps entrances to College cleaned and picked up.

Indirect supervision given to work study students and student workers.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Groundskeeper II provides maintenance services on campus roads and grounds including wooded areas at the Quad-Cities Campus and satellite sites. Provides snow and ice removal work during winter months, and provides other services as assigned.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  1. Secures general instructions for work assignments from Lead Groundskeeper.
  2. Repairs and maintains all Quad Cities Campus and satellite site roadways, lots, and pathways.
  3. Performs all outdoor grounds maintenance, mowing, irrigation, landscaping, pest disease control measures; inclusive of all trees, shrubbery, plants, etc.
  4. Performs tree maintenance for maintaining a healthy and safe environment; includes trimming, pruning, removal, etc.
  5. Keeps entrances to College cleaned and picked up.
  6. Performs first level maintenance on all grounds equipment, vehicles, operation logs, and service records.
  7. Performs snow and ice removal and salt spreading and utilizing all appropriate equipment and outdoor assignments during winter months.
  8. Installs and repairs sod; seeds; applies fertilizer, herbicides, fungicides and insecticides.
  9. Operates power equipment, heavy equipment, and hand tools while observing College safety procedures.
  10. Works overtime hours as needed.
  11. Maintains a valid CDL Illinois driver’s license.
  12. Responsible for following all federal, state, local, and departmental safety regulations.
  13. Attends required trainings as needed.
  14. Maintains satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
DESCRIPTION OF OTHER DUTIES
  1. Performs emergency acetylene welding repairs on vital equipment.
  1. Coordinates and plans moving of College equipment; assembles equipment as needed.
  2. Maintains inventory and orders supplies.
  3. Builds and constructs items for the department.
  4. Coordinates the removal of recycling materials, including delivery of materials; maintains records on program and implementation progress and coordinates recycle persons.
  5. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
