Wayne County Public Schools is seeking a Grounds Keeper I to maintain the appearance of school grounds. Job Specifications
Title: Grounds Keeper I
Qualifications: High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and education and/or experience in grounds work that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade and equivalent to two years of experience in planting, cultivation and care of shrubs, trees, palnts and grasses.
Requirements:

  • Must be able to bend, push, pull and lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Must have a current valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Must be able to operate power tools and lawn equipment
Reports to: Grounds Keeper Leader
Job Goal: An employee in this class uses simple tools to maintain grounds including planting, cultivating, pruning and cutting plants, trees, shrubs, grass and flowers. Assignments are generally routine and repetitive in nature. Detailed instructions are given and problems are referred tp a supervisor . Work performance is inspected and evaluated based on grounds appearance and errors are quickly revealed. The employee recives direct supervision.

  • Waters lawn, shrubs and flowers
  • Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts
  • Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools and shears
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of grounds keeping and horticultural practices
  • Working knowledge of the cultivation, pruning, spraying and trimming requirements of shrubs and trees.
  • Ability to make minor repairs to lawn mowers, hose, rakes, pruners and sprayers
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to use and sharpen gardening tools
Terms of Employement: 12-month work year/At Will Employee.FLSA Non-Exempt
Starting Salary and/or Grade: $34,413.60 - $43,459.68/Grade 56/Plus Longevity
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board and local polity on evaluation of personnel
