Job summary

Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, IA is seeking a Full-Time Grounds and Maintenance role to care for exterior entrances, grounds, and building exteriors. You will perform turf maintenance, seasonal cleanup, and basic repairs to keep the campus safe and welcoming.

Description
Key Accountability
  • Keep and maintain all exterior entrances clean daily. This includes but is not limited to removal of trash, seasonal debris removal such as leaves, animal/bird debris such as nests or feces, mud, dust, etc.
  • Keep hospital grounds, building exteriors and all roof areas clean and free of trash and debris.
  • Remove snow and ice from entrances, parking lots and sidewalks. Use of sand and ice melt as directed.
  • Aerate, spray, fertilize, mow and trim turf including out of way areas, ditches, banks, detention ponds, etc.
  • Plant, maintain, water, and prune ornamentals. Weed gardens and rock areas and mulch beds.
  • Operate and repair fountains as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of materials and supplies needed to perform tasks. This includes tracking prior year usage to ensure correct amounts are ordered each season to prevent shortages or surplus of seasonal supplies such as mulch, fertilizer, ice melt, sand, etc.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment and tools for proper functioning, wear and tear. This includes keeping equipment and tools in a neat and organized fashion.
  • Maintain mowers and equipment including regular routine maintenance such as oil changes and blade sharpening, repairs, and preparing them for seasonal service.
  • Maintain records, reports, statistics and budgetary information for administrative and regulatory review.
  • Evaluate and justify department’s needs and purchases relating to grounds and equipment. Direct storage of supplies and equipment.
  • Perform utility and project work as required, such as painting, project cleaning and minor repairs.
  • Assist Maintenance Manager with contract negotiations relating to grounds and snow/ice removal.
  • Will be required to complete task and preventative maintenance requests in the Facility Fit Pro Work Order system.
  • Assist carpenter when in times of need and when not doing grounds duties. This could include a variety of duties such as furniture moving, painting, and basic carpentry repair work.
  • Identified as the person in charge of the snow removal program, with knowledge in salts, sand, and chemicals used to treat and remove snow and ice. Has authority to call in contracted snow removal, and additional staff help to clear and treat as needed and during times of heavy weather.
  • Must be able to balance the grounds duties and the building maintenance duties to ensure that facility is maintained at the highest possible level.
  • Maintains hospital vehicle fleet including regular scheduled maintenance and cleanliness.

Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
