Job summary

Horry County Schools is seeking a Specialist – Equipment Operator I to maintain district grounds and landscaped areas, ensuring safe, functional environments for students and staff. The role demands a safety-oriented, experienced heavy equipment operator who can inspect, perform preventative maintenance, and occasionally repair equipment.

Responsibilities include operating forklifts, skid-steers, dump trucks, backhoes, and attachments; performing pre-trip inspections; coordinating material

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• SC Class A CDL with air brake endorsement required.
• Minimum 3 years of Equipment Operator experience.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions for duties.
• Knowledge of safety practices and PPE for tasks and equipment.
• Ability to use computers for data entry.

Responsibilities

• Operate basic and specified heavy equipment (forklifts, skid-steers, dump trucks, backhoes, tractors).
• Perform pre-trip inspections and basic repairs; maintain fluids.
• Oversee loading, hauling, delivery and installation of project materials and equipment.
• Maintain grounds tools and equipment in safe condition and available for use.
• Respond to emergencies and safety concerns; coordinate with vendors as needed.
• Coordinate work with Facilities maintenance team; request materials and equipment as needed.
