Poway Unified School District seeks a Grounds Maintenance Worker to operate and maintain a variety of power equipment and vehicles in the maintenance of District grounds. You will perform regular preventive maintenance and minor repairs on grounds equipment under the supervision of the Grounds Supervisor.

The 8-hour/day, 12-month position requires a high school diploma and a California Class B driver's license with air brake endorsement within six months.

• Graduation from high school (or equivalent) and one year of grounds maintenance experience including the operation and maintenance of grounds maintenance equipment.
• Possession of a valid California Class B driver's license with air brake endorsement within six months of employment.
• This classification has been identified as a safety-sensitive job class per U.S. DOT guidelines; random alcohol/drug testing is required.

Requirements / Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school (or equivalent) and one year of grounds maintenance experience including the operation and maintenance of grounds maintenance equipment.

Licenses And Other Requirements

A valid California Class B driver's license with air brake endorsement within six months of employment.
NOTE: This classification has been identified as a safety-sensitive job class based on the guidelines of the U.S. Department of Transportation. Employees in this job class are subject to random selection for alcohol or controlled substance testing.
The current vacancy is 8 hours per day, 12 months per year, located within our Facilities, Maintenance, & Operations Department (FMO) at the Twin Peaks Center.
PUSD Classification Salary Range: $24.30 - $31.10 per hour*

• Promotional Pay Rate is based on Rule #70.200.4 (see below)
  

Hourly rate may be slightly lower for employees currently on the 55 schedule (hired prior to 2013) due to the Retirement contribution.
Selection Procedure
Applications will be screened, and those candidates whose backgrounds best match the requirements of the position will be invited to participate in a competitive examination process, which may include any combination of the following: Training & Experience evaluation (T&E), multiple-choice question test, job-related performance exercise, and technical/ oral appraisal interview. Examination procedures are subject to change as deemed necessary by the Director of the Personnel Commission.
Candidates who pass all of the examination processes are ranked on an eligibility list according to their score(s). Selection for the position will be made from among the top three (3) ranks of candidates. The eligibility list will be used for hiring purposes in other vacancies in the same, or equivalent, job classification and will be active for six (6) months (Merit Rule 50.100.1).
