Job Duties

VMI is accepting applications for a full-time Grounds Equipment Operator in the Facilities Maintenance Department.

• Operates trucks, tractors, backhoes, front-end loaders, mowers, snowplows, and other equipment related to preventive and corrective maintenance.
• Responds to emergency situations as needed during and after hours, including snow and ice removal.
• Applies herbicides, insecticides, and fertilizers to turf, yards, fields, and plants (certifications required).
• Operates JLG lift and bucket truck lift for tree/shrub trimming or removal (certification required).
• Maintains and performs minor repairs on equipment.
• Performs setup functions per work order and diagrams.
• Supports special events after hours and on weekends.
• Identified as essential personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

• Working skill in the use of hand tools.
• Ability to operate motor vehicles.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Ability to work from heights; preferred.

Other Qualifications

• JLG Lift and Bucket Truck certification (required within 6 months of employment).

Additional Considerations

• High school diploma/GED.
• Knowledge of arithmetic, units of measure, and equipment maintenance.
• Basic computer skills.
