Job summary

Amentum in McLean, VA is seeking a Grounds - Carpenter Grade I to join our team. The role focuses on framing, drywall, doors, and general grounds maintenance in a safety sensitive environment.

Work hours are Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Candidates should have four years in carpentry or a journeyman program and be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance; high school diploma required. Occasional overtime, evenings, and weekends may be needed.

Job description

Amentum is looking for a Grounds - Carpenter Grade I to join our team in McLean, VA!

Purpose and Impact: Perform carpentry construction work to include, but not limited to framing, hanging drywall, installing/repairing carpet tiles, installing/repairing acoustical ceilings, installing doors and door hardware related to construction and building & grounds maintenance.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM

Essential Responsibilities:

• Responsible for planning and layout work
• Perform carpentry buildings and grounds maintenance work.
• Perform carpentry construction work.
• Responsible for the planning, layout and execution of jobs.
• Perform minor masonry and concrete work.
• Perform related work as required.
• Provides oversight to outside contractors
• Directs Carpenter II and M/M Helper, and repair personnel as assigned.
• Read blueprints and generate bill of materials.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

• Incumbents may work in conditions that require operating industrial machinery/power tools and motor vehicles. Additionally, incumbents may participate in work that requires walking, bending, squatting and carrying materials throughout the facility.

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

• Ability to comprehend written and oral instructions.
• Possess thorough knowledge of the carpentry trade.
• Must be able to operate power tools and machinery as required.
• A willingness to work shift if necessary, including days, evenings and nights as well as overtime, weekends and holidays as required.

Security Clearance Required: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance. Note: U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain a Top Secret clearance.

Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent required

Minimum Years of Experience:

• Four years’ experience in the carpentry trade or building maintenance.
• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship, vocational or internal developmental program for a journeyman carpenter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to write correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in a one on one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
• Active Top Secret clearance.

This position is designated as a safety sensitive position.
