The Walker School is seeking a dependable Grounds and Facilities Maintenance Associate to join our Facilities Team. This full-time, 12-month role supports the daily operations of a 50-acre campus, focusing on grounds upkeep, exterior maintenance, and event preparation for athletic and school activities.

Ideal candidates are reliable, professional, and customer-service oriented, with flexibility to support campus needs and occasional evening or weekend events.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience in groundskeeping, custodial services, facilities maintenance, or related work preferred.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds safely.
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work outdoors for extended periods.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Grounds and Exterior Maintenance: maintain campus grounds, sidewalks, courtyards, athletic spaces, parking lots, and exterior areas.
  • Athletic and Event Support: assist with setup/breakdown for practices, games, events; move tables, chairs, equipment.
  • Custodial and Facilities Support: sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, restroom upkeep, minor repairs; load/unload deliveries.
  • Safety and Campus Stewardship: follow safety procedures, identify hazards, keep campus clean, assist with opening/locking facilities.

Position Title: Grounds and Facilities Maintenance Associate
Reports To: Director of Facilities and Maintenance
Employment Status: Full‑time, 12‑month position
FLSA Classification: Nonexempt
Position Description

The Walker School is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and service oriented Grounds and Facilities Maintenance Associate to join our Facilities Team. This position plays an important role in maintaining the beauty, safety, and functionality of our 50 acre campus while supporting the daily operations of the school community. Responsibilities include grounds upkeep, exterior maintenance, event and athletic facilities setup, custodial support, and minor maintenance tasks.

The ideal candidate is team oriented, takes pride in their work, and understands the importance of creating a welcoming environment for students, families, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position requires flexibility, attention to detail, and a willingness to support school operations in a variety of ways. Essential Job Duties
Grounds and Exterior Maintenance
  • Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the campus grounds, sidewalks, courtyards, athletic spaces, parking lots, and exterior common areas
  • Blow sidewalks and walkways, remove litter and debris, and empty exterior trash and recycling containers
  • Monitor exterior drainage areas and remove debris to maintain proper water flow
  • Assist with maintaining outdoor furniture, signage, and campus fixtures
  • Support seasonal campus preparation and weather related cleanup
Athletic and Event Support
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for athletic practices, games, tournaments, and school events
  • Move tables, chairs, athletic equipment, staging, and other event related materials
  • Prepare athletic facilities and outdoor spaces for school and community use
  • Assist with campus logistics for special programs, ceremonies, and performances
Custodial and Facilities Support
  • Provide custodial support as needed, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, restroom upkeep, window cleaning, and spill response
  • Assist with light maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and minor repairs
  • Support unloading deliveries and transporting supplies across campus
  • Properly maintain assigned equipment, tools, and school vehicles
  • Report facility concerns, safety hazards, or maintenance issues promptly
Safety and Campus Stewardship
  • Follow all institutional safety procedures and operational guidelines
  • Maintain awareness of campus conditions and proactively identify potential safety concerns
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for the school community
  • Assist with opening and securing facilities when assigned
Core Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous experience in groundskeeping, custodial services, facilities maintenance, or related work preferred
  • Ability to safely lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs, and work outdoors for extended periods of time
  • Ability to safely operate custodial and grounds equipment
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Valid driver’s license preferred
