Job description

The groundperson is responsible for gathering and feeding brush & debris into a woodchipper, scanning areas for trip and fall hazards, and ensuring other workers stay out of the path of travel. This position also involves maintaining equipment and materials.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Operate chainsaw to cut brush, logs, and stumps of larger trees.
  • Drag, gather, and feed brush into wood chipper.
  • Service and maintain vehicles and equipment, keeping them clean and in mechanical order.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Pre-Screening:
  • Employees may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and MVR check upon offer.
License & Certifications:
  • Driver's License preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Rare (less than 10%): Sitting, crawling, climbing poles, color vision, climbing ladders and stairs.
  • Occasional (up to 33%): Stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, sense of touch, climbing on/off trucks, gripping, lifting over 10 lbs to 50 lbs, reaching, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, balancing, lifting over 50 lbs.
  • Frequent (up to 66%): Standing, walking, manual dexterity, seeing distant, reading, range of motion, hearing, depth perception, climbing stairs, lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Continuous (up to 100%): Sense of touch, gripping, seeing, carrying, pulling.
Safety:

Employees must have sufficient eyesight for distance judgment and coordination, maintain attention for extended periods, withstand weather conditions, wear PPE, enter and exit vehicles multiple times daily, traverse various terrains, perform job duties throughout an 8- or 10-hour shift, communicate effectively, and handle confrontations professionally. Work involves exposure to hazardous equipment, noise, weather, unlevel ground, and falling limbs, requiring appropriate protective measures.

About Us:

Asplundh provides tree pruning, vegetation management, right-of-way clearing, emergency storm work, and logistical support. Our subsidiaries offer overhead and underground line construction, planning, design, electrical testing, and street lighting services. We also operate Rotor Blade Airborne Utilities Management using helicopters.
