Groundman are responsible for directing crane operators who are loading and unloading cargo containers from railcars.
Hostler drivers are responsible for the safe and efficient movement of cargo during the loading and unloading phases of the operation.
Hostler drivers must qualify as Groundman within the first month of employment.

General Requirements / Education and/or Experience:
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands: The physical demands required include sitting; using hands to handle objects; reaching; talking; and hearing. Occasionally, standing, walking, climbing, or balancing are required. The employee must occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Work Environment: The employee works outdoors in weather conditions, exposed to vibration, moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shocks. The noise level is usually loud. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.
