Job summary

Joby Aviation is seeking a hands-on engineer for the Ground Support Equipment team in San Carlos. You will work on off-aircraft systems like charging infrastructure, thermal conditioning, and embedded controls, bridging electrical, mechanical, firmware, and software disciplines.

The role requires strong C/C++, Python, embedded systems fluency, and hands-on lab experience. Travel domestically and internationally is required for field deployments.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field; 5+ years in mechanical/electrical/robotics
• Strong fundamentals in electrical and mechanical engineering
• DC/AC circuits, power electronics
• Networking protocols: CAN, Modbus, RS485, Ethernet, TCP/IP, VLANS, MQTT
• Fluent in C/C++, Python
• Reading/creating electrical schematics
• Lab testing with oscilloscope, multimeter, data acquisition systems
• Fluency in embedded systems and deep codebase understanding

Responsibilities

• Develop integration plan for a system with electrical, mechatronic, mechanical, embedded and hydronic subsystems
• Select components to balance cost, performance and functionality
• Assist in assembly and integration of prototype systems
• Lead root cause analysis for system-level failures across hardware, firmware and software
• Script routines to exercise system functionality
• Create manufacturing/test/maintenance/operation documentation
• Support system function testing and perform certification testing
• Troubleshoot issues remotely and on site
• Travel domestically and internationally to support field deployments
