Job Description Summary: Responsible for working with Admissions Counselors and Admissions Representatives to monitor assigned students’ academic progress and use reports/indicators to identify and resolve potential issues which prevent the student from attaining a college degree.

While this is a remote role, we are looking for someone locally who lives in the greater Phoenix, AZ area.

We are looking for a motivated Student Services Counselor to work directly with current and prospective students to advise them on degree program requirements, course selection, and financial counseling. Starting salary is $43,000 per year, with an earning potential of $70,000 after several successful years of service.

New hire training will include three full weeks: one week in-person at our Phoenix, AZ campus, followed by two weeks virtual via Zoom. This position is remote, supporting ground students.

As a Student Services Counselor, a typical week might include:

  • Strategy and execution: Counseling students on university policies, payment options, and academic progress. Responsible for financial clearance, including collecting documentation and funding strategies, working cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
  • Partner and influence: Providing exceptional counseling to prospective students via phone or email, promoting university success and growth.
  • Heart and Hustle: Acting as a student advocate, ensuring compliance matters are resolved before course start dates, and implementing intervention strategies to keep students on track. Demonstrating excellent communication, persuasion, and multitasking skills in a high-volume environment.

The role might be right for you if you have:

  • A bachelor’s degree. No delinquent or defaulted federal student loans, verified via credit report. If in a rehabilitation program, credit must reflect current payments.
  • Outstanding customer service, organization, and time management skills. Multitasking, planning, and follow-up skills are essential to meet deadlines.
  • Clear communication skills. Ability to represent the GCE/GCU brand professionally with strong listening skills.
  • Self-motivation and drive to succeed. Proactive in seeking challenges and taking ownership of student interactions.
  • High emotional intelligence. Empathy and coaching ability are key, given the diverse student population.
  • Computer literacy. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with digital tools are required for remote work.
