A leading health system in South Jersey is seeking a Grossing Technician to perform gross examinations of biopsy specimens under the supervision of a Pathologist. The role requires excellent histology skills and the ability to work independently. The technician will assist in intraoperative consultations and maintain compliance with safety and quality standards.

The start time is either 6:30am or 3:00pm depending on which shift is needed.
Work a minimum of 4 hours per shift.
Job Summary:
The Grossing Technician under direct supervision of a Pathologist Assistant and/or Pathologist performs gross examination of small non-complex biopsy specimens as per CLIA'88 guidelines and department protocol. Possesses excellent Histology skills including but not limited to proficiency with routine histology, special staining, immunohistochemistry, and frozen sections.
Position Responsibilities
Under direct supervision, as per department protocol, routinely performs gross examination of small non-complex biopsy specimens to include color, size, and texture. Loads prepared cassettes in tissue processor (Peloris and/or Tissue Tek Xpress). Assists the Pathologist and/or Pathologist Assistant during Intraoperative consultations by freezing, cutting, and staining tissue. Assures appropriate accessioning, and labeling of surgical specimens. Identifies any problems that may arise with the handling and processing of specimens and notify supervisor as needed. Adds appropriate fixative to fresh specimens at the direction of PA/Pathologists. Assists PA with preparation of Native kidney specimens for tissue adequacy by preparing slides for Pathologist. Other duties as needed to assist PA in the gross room.
Maintains a clean and organized work area. Maintains equipment and assures adequate supplies are readily available. Assures proper disposal of pathological wastes.
Demonstrates the ability to prioritize work by completing assignments according to written procedures. Maintains turnaround time. Records related information in EPIC.
Ensures all safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards are met.
Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation agencies including Joint Commission, CLIA, State, and Federal.
Required Education:
Associate's degree in a biological science required; bachelor's degree preferred.
Required Experience:
Prior experience in histology laboratory setting preferred. Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently. Knowledge of EPIC preferred.
Training / Certification / Licensure:
HT or HTL (ASCP) preferred.
