Job Summary: A Full-Time Grossing Technician at our Pathology Lab in San Jose.To perform the duties of the Grossing Technician per the Laboratory’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The Grossing Technician will adhere to and support our culture of compliance and safety by following all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with attention to detail, accuracy and professionalism at all times.

NYS pathology lab and Mohs clinic providers and staff positions are mandated W-2 employment status positions as required by applicable laws and regulations.

Schedule: Availability Monday to Friday between business hours of 7am-6pm.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares tissue for specimen processing.
  • Accessions clinical information using Pathology reporting software.
  • Use automated equipment and computerized instruments.
  • File tissue blocks and slides
  • Assisting with tests or experiments, recording results, keeping logs and sorting through materials used in laboratory processes
  • Assemble various types of laboratory equipment, sterilizing them when necessary.
  • Cleaning and organizing the lab, preparing samples and microscope slides, ensuring equipment and chemicals are readily available.
  • Operate microscopes, machinery, meters, filters and pumps
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Prior work experience of six months is desired in order to gain familiarity on-the-job with histology techniques.
  • Experience in large-scale organization or high-volume production environment preferred to gain seasoned familiarity with processing specimens in production environment.
  • Should be familiar with most major techniques for staining and special staining.
  • Analytical skills necessary for processing slides under tight deadlines and general supervision; should have ability to identify specific specimens for supervisory follow-up.
  • Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS (this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed in in the education required section) OR at least 3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
  • An associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution OR have education and training equivalent to such degree that includes:
    • At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either
      • 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or
      • 24 semester hours of science courses that include -
        • 6 semester hours of chemistry
        • 6 semester hours of biology and
        • 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry in any combination
