Job summary

Discovery Land Company, Homewood Mountain & Lake Club in California, seeks a Grooming & Trails Supervisor to lead winter grooming and summer trail projects. You’ll manage grooming operations, coordinate with Snowmaking and Patrol, supervise staff, and uphold safety and guest service standards.

The role requires strong leadership, 3+ years in ski area operations with grooming experience, and a commitment to excellent service in a dynamic resort environment.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma; college degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years ski area operations experience including grooming.
  • Supervisory/management experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of snowmaking, grooming, and mountain operations.
  • Ability to read weather data and operational metrics.
  • Must meet driver’s license and insurability requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement daily grooming plans based on weather and traffic.
  • Monitor snow conditions across trails and features.
  • Maintain high-quality snow surfaces meeting safety and guest satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with Snowmaking to optimize production and surface quality.
  • Supervise grooming operators and staff; conduct evaluations.
  • Oversee winter and summer trail maintenance and upgrades.
  • Manage equipment maintenance and preventive schedules.
  • Ensure safety policies and regulatory requirements are followed.
  • Assist with special events and labor cost monitoring.

This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Homewood Mountain & Lake Club, set on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe in Homewood, California.

Homewood is seeking a Grooming & Trails Supervisor to join the Mountain Operations Department.

Job Summary

The Grooming & Trails Supervisor oversees all aspects of snow surface preparation and maintenance for the Resort area. During winter operations, this position manages grooming operations, partners with snowmaking, reports on surface conditions and quality to ensure safe, consistent, and enjoyable skiing and riding experience. During summer operations, this position oversees trail and road improvements, on-mountain preventive maintenance projects, forest management, and erosion control.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement daily grooming plans based on weather, skier traffic, and operational priorities.
  • Monitor and evaluate snow conditions across all trails and terrain features.
  • Maintain high-quality snow surfaces that meet resort standards for safety and guest satisfaction.
  • Partner with the Snowmaking Department to optimize snow production and surface quality.
  • Partner with Patrol on trail openings, closures, and condition reporting.
  • Must be available to respond to operational needs and weather events outside of normal business hours.
  • Coordinates with the Director of Mountain Operations on summer trail maintenance and upgrades.
  • Support other summer operations as needed.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise grooming operators and snow surface staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and development.
  • Foster a positive team culture focused on safety, quality, and service.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of snow grooming equipment and coordinate preventive maintenance schedules with the vehicle maintenance department.
  • Assist in evaluating and recommending equipment purchases and upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure employees follow safety procedures and operational standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of operations, maintenance, and safety activities.
  • Work with the Director of Mountain Operations to monitor labor and staffing, maintenance requirements, equipment cost trends, and department expenditures.
  • Manage operational costs while maintaining quality standards.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades and efficiency improvements.
  • Work closely with Patrol, Snowmaking, Safety and other Mountain Operations teams to create a memorable guest experience.
  • Assist with special events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required, college degree in business, recreation management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of ski area operations experience, including grooming and snow surface management.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of snowmaking, grooming practices, and mountain operations.
  • Ability to analyze weather, snow conditions, and operational data.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience operating snow grooming equipment preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and always meet company insurability requirements. OSHA certifications and hoisting/operators' licensing are a plus.

  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.

The Company’s good faith estimate of the annual rate it expects to pay for this role is $72,500-$85,000 and is based on applicable and specialized experience and location.
