Job summary

Killington/Pico Ski Resort Partners, LLC is seeking a grooming operations leader to supervise daily snow grooming in winter and trail maintenance and summer projects. You will interface with Snowmaking, Lift Operations, Patrol, Events, and Marketing to coordinate services.

The role demands managing up to 40 winter staff and up to 12 summer personnel, with planning, safety oversight, and capital planning responsibilities. Experience in ski resort grooming is essential.

Qualifications

Job Summary

As part of the Grooming leadership team, supervise day-to-day snow grooming operations in the winter as well as trail maintenance and capital projects in the summer. Effectively interfacing with related departments including Snowmaking, Lift Operations, Patrol, Events, Lift Maintenance, Vehicle Maintenance, Terrain Parks, Marketing and others as needed.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan, supervise and coordinate the daily functions of all snow grooming operations
  • In wintertime, exercise full supervisory authority, directly and indirectly, over up to 40 employees (Shift Foremen, Hill Chiefs, Groomer 3, Groomer 2, Groomer 1) Including assisting in interviewing/hiring, disciplinary and evaluating
  • In summertime, exercise full supervisory authority, directly and indirectly, over up to 12 equipment operators/laborers Including assisting in interviewing/hiring, disciplinary and evaluating
  • Assist in planning and conducting regular staff meetings and safety meetings
  • Confer regularly with staff to plan and coordinate activities, assign and check work, resolve problems and the like
  • Assist in planning work schedules & time keeping as needed
  • Assist in planning grooming operations. Inspect trails for grooming needs. Coordinate and schedule machinery and staff to complete needed work. Inspect completed grooming work for adherence to standards. Follow up as necessary
  • Develop, implement, and audit operating standards and procedures for grooming. Assist in establishing and auditing a comprehensive training program
  • Assist in developing a daily grooming plan based on personal observation as well as information derived from Snowmaking, Patrol, Skier Traffic, weather forecasts, and special needs from other departments (Lifts, Racing, Events, Marketing, etc..). Prioritize the plan and distribute to shift foremen. Audit regularly and make changes as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively to Vehicle Maintenance concerning problems or vehicle needs to assist in prioritization of work load in maintenance shop
  • Assist in providing comprehensive and timely information to Marketing regarding trails groomed, accumulation of new snow, depth of base snow, surface conditions
  • Confer regularly with the Grooming and Night Operations managers and other company departments to plan, coordinate and evaluate services/projects and activities. Exchange information and resolve problems. Attend staff meetings and participate in training sessions
  • Assist in developing yearly capital programs for the Grooming & Trails departments
  • Assist in planning and managing summer and capital projects
  • Follow the Resort Etiquette Guidelines while interacting with the guests and respond to all guests in a courteous, efficient manner
  • Perform other tasks as assigned
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school education or equivalent

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time while operating snow grooming equipment
  • Ability to work cooperatively with various company personnel and outside firms
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • 5-7 years of experience in snow grooming operations and relevant technical and supervisory experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired
  • Broad base of technical knowledge and skills related to ski trail surface preparation and maintenance, including reaction of snow and skis under various weather conditions, heavy equipment operation & erosion control
  • Good mechanical skills
  • Good communications skills; good basic teaching/training skills
  • Advanced skiing ability is preferred
