Overview

Petco Grooming Career: As a Grooming Salon Leader at Petco, you will lead salon operations and salon team members, while delivering expert grooming services to our customers' pets. Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day grooming salon operations, ensure smooth workflows, optimize scheduling, manage inventory, and execute staffing plans.
• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a team from entry-level to professional groomers; provide coaching, feedback, training, and performance evaluations; foster a positive, collaborative environment.
• Create and manage efficient grooming schedules to maximize capacity and accommodate customer demand; balance team availability with business needs.
• Monitor salon performance metrics (revenue, customer satisfaction, partner productivity); analyze data and develop action plans for improvement.
• Collaborate with store management to achieve sales targets and salon objectives; implement strategies to drive growth and profitability.
• Interact with pet parents to provide exceptional customer service, address questions, offer grooming recommendations, and promptly resolve concerns.
• Stay current with grooming industry trends to enhance skills of yourself and the team.
• Independently perform professional grooming services (bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, gland cleaning) per pet parents’ instructions and breed standards; prioritize safety and well-being of pets.
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers).
• Evaluate individual needs of each pet (coat type, skin conditions, temperament) and educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and home care.
• Ensure well-being and safety of every animal in the salon; monitor for discomfort, illness, or injury and report concerns to owners and management.
• Maintain a clean, safe grooming area; disinfect tools; perform daily/weekly cleaning per Petco hygiene policies.
• Adhere to Petco grooming policies and guidelines to ensure safety, quality, and consistency; hold team members accountable for safety and quality standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

• 2+ years of professional grooming experience or completion of a technical grooming training program
• Strong leadership skills with a desire to lead, train, and develop people; 1-2 years of salon management experience preferred
• High-school diploma or GED preferred, though not required
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, health issues, and behaviors
• Expert-level proficiency in breed-specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards
• Genuine passion for animals and a desire to continue a career in pet grooming
• Decision-making and problem-solving abilities with guidance as needed
• Results-driven with focus on salon productivity, performance, growth, and improvement
• Strong attention to detail; ability to groom to high standards
• Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy
• Full-time availability (minimum 35 hours/week), including weekends, evenings, and holidays as schedule requires

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $15.00 - $30.00 per hour. Compensation may vary by location and experience. Benefits include medical/dental/vision, 401k, paid time off, pet discounts, and other listed rewards.
