Job Title: Grooming Salon Leader
We are looking for a dedicated Grooming Salon Leader to manage salon operations and deliver high quality grooming services to our valued customers’ pets. This role focuses on leading a team, ensuring customer satisfaction, maintaining grooming standards, and achieving salon performance goals.
Job Summary
The Grooming Salon Leader’s main responsibility is to lead and manage grooming salon operations and team members. The Leader ensures a high level of customer satisfaction, fosters a positive work environment, drives salon performance, and develops and coaches both entry‑level and seasoned groomers. The Leader also performs expert‑level grooming services—bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning—prioritizing pet safety and well‑being.
Essential Job Functions
- Oversee day‑to‑day salon operations, ensuring smooth workflows, efficient scheduling, and optimal grooming capacity.
- Manage inventory levels and staffing plans.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate a team of groomers.
- Create and manage grooming schedules that maximize productivity and meet customer demand.
- Monitor salon performance metrics (revenue, customer satisfaction, employee productivity) and analyze data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with store management to meet sales targets and salon objectives.
- Provide exceptional customer service to pet parents, addressing inquiries and offering grooming recommendations.
- Stay current on grooming industry trends and best practices.
- Perform professional grooming services in accordance with breed standards and company policies.
- Operate and maintain grooming instruments and equipment safely.
- Assess each pet’s individual needs and provide appropriate grooming and care advice.
- Ensure animal safety, monitor pets for discomfort or injury, and report concerns promptly.
- Maintain a clean, sanitized grooming area, performing daily and weekly cleaning tasks.
- Uphold Petco grooming policies, standards, and safety guidelines, holding team members accountable.
Qualifications
- Minimum two years’ experience as a professional groomer or completion of a technical grooming training program.
- Strong leadership skills with a desire to develop and coach people; 1–2 years salon management experience preferred.
- High‑school diploma or GED preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, health issues, and behaviors.
- Proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards.
- Genuine passion for animals and commitment to a career in pet grooming.
- Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities.
- Results‑driven focus on salon productivity and growth.
- Attention to detail and commitment to high grooming standards.
- Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
- Available to work full time (minimum 35 hours per week, including weekends, evenings, and holidays) as required by the schedule.
Work Environment
The role is conducted indoors in the salon, involving bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds), standing for long periods, and occasional work near heights or vacuums. Time is spent in direct contact with pet parents and dogs, with a noisy and wet environment.

Salary Range
$15.00 – $28.00 per hour. Actual pay depends on position, location, experience, and local wage laws.
