Petco is a leading pet care retailer that provides products, services, and education to pet owners. The Grooming Salon Leader is responsible for managing salon operations, leading and developing a team of groomers, and delivering exceptional grooming services to our customers’ pets.

Job Summary

The Grooming Salon Leader’s primary purpose is to lead and manage grooming salon operations and team members. The role delivers high levels of customer satisfaction, fosters a positive work environment, drives salon performance, and develops and coaches entry‑level and seasoned groomers. The Leader also performs expert grooming services, including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning, while prioritizing the safety and comfort of every pet in care.

Essential Job Functions
  • Oversee day‑to‑day salon operations, ensuring smooth workflows, accurate scheduling, optimal capacity, inventory control, and staffing plans.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate a team of groomers ranging from entry‑level to professional level, fostering collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Create efficient grooming schedules that maximize productivity and balance team availability with customer demand.
  • Monitor salon performance metrics such as revenue, customer satisfaction, and partner productivity; analyze data to identify improvement opportunities and develop action plans.
  • Collaborate with store management to achieve sales targets and salon objectives, implementing strategies to drive growth, expand the customer base, and boost profitability.
  • Interact professionally with pet parents, provide exceptional service, address inquiries, offer grooming recommendations, and resolve concerns proactively.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices to continually enhance grooming skills at both personal and team levels.
  • Perform grooming services—bath, dry, brush, haircut, styling, nail trim, ear clean, gland clean—adhering to breed standards and company policies.
  • Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers).
  • Assess individual pet needs, considering coat type, skin condition, and temperament, and provide tailored maintenance recommendations.
  • Ensure the well‑being and safety of all animals, monitoring for signs of discomfort or illness and reporting concerns promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, safe salon area, disinfecting tools and equipment, and performing daily/weekly cleaning duties according to Petco hygiene policies.
  • Apply Petco grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure safety, quality, and consistency; hold salon team members accountable.
Education & Experience
  • Minimum 2 years as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program.
  • Preferably 1–2 years of salon management or related experience.
  • High‑school diploma or GED preferred, though not required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and team members.
  • Expert knowledge of breed‑specific cuts, grooming standards, and common health issues.
  • Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills applied to moderately complex situations.
  • Results‑driven mindset focused on salon productivity, performance, growth, and improvement.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high standards in grooming services.
  • Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
  • Availability to work full‑time (minimum 35 hours per week), including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
Work Environment

Salon operations are conducted indoors. The role requires frequent bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing for extended periods. Exposure to heights and wet, noisy environments may occur.

Salary Range

Hourly/Salary: $15.00 – $28.00. Actual pay varies by location and experience.
