Overview

Petco Grooming Career opportunities. As a Pet Stylist at Petco, you will provide professional grooming services to our customers' pets with attention to detail to ensure each pet looks and feels its best. You will prioritize safety, comfort, and well-being of the pets and deliver high levels of customer service to pet parents.

Responsibilities

• Perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning, according to pet parents’ instructions and breed standards, while adhering to company policies and procedures.
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers).
• Prioritize the well-being and safety of every animal in the salon; monitor for signs of discomfort, illness, or injury and report concerns to pet owners and store management.
• Evaluate each pet’s needs, considering coat type, skin conditions, and temperament; provide professional recommendations as needed.
• Interact professionally with pet parents; provide optimal customer service, address grooming inquiries, offer recommendations, and resolve concerns in a timely manner.
• Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and at-home care practices and products to promote overall pet well-being.
• Maintain a clean and safe grooming area; disinfect and sanitize tools and equipment; perform daily and weekly cleaning per Petco hygiene policies and procedures.
• Follow Petco grooming policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure safety, quality, and consistency across grooming activities.
• May need to train, support, and supervise entry-level trainees in the absence of a Grooming Salon Leader.

Education/Experience

• Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or prior experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a technical grooming training program.
• High-school diploma or GED preferred, though not required.
• Ability to make independent judgments and solve problems in routine to moderately complex situations with guidance from leadership when necessary.
• Results-driven with commitment to productivity, performance, and ownership of the grooming role.
• Strong attention to detail; ensure grooming services meet high standards.
• Genuine passion for animals and desire to pursue a career in pet grooming.
• Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues, and behaviors; proficient in breed-specific cuts and styling techniques.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interactions with pet parents and team members.
• Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
• Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.

Work Environment

The majority of duties are performed indoors in the grooming salon. Physical requirements include bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. Some tasks may require heights or ladders for cleaning and maintenance. A significant portion of time is spent in direct contact with pet parents and their dogs; the environment can be noisy and wet.

Pay ranges are presented in accordance with state regulations and may vary by location and regulatory minimum wage requirements. Actual pay is based on factors such as position, location, experience, and applicable laws.

Salary Range: $15.00 - $25.00
