Job Overview

As a Pet Stylist at Petco, you will be responsible for providing professional grooming services to our valued customers' pets. With your expertise and attention to detail, you will ensure that each pet receives exceptional care, leaving them looking and feeling their best.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning according to breed standards and company policies.
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
• Prioritize the well‑being of every animal, monitor for discomfort or illness, and report concerns promptly.
• Evaluate individual needs of each pet considering coat type, skin conditions, and temperament.
• Interacting professionally with pet parents, providing optimal customer service, addressing inquiries, and offering recommendations.
• Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and at‑home care practices to promote overall well‑being.
• Maintain a clean and safe grooming area, disinfecting tools and performing daily and weekly cleaning tasks in accordance with hygiene policies.
• Apply grooming policies and standards to ensure safety, quality, and consistency.
• Train, support, and supervise entry‑level trainees when a Grooming Salon Leader is absent.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program or equivalent professional grooming experience.
• High‑school diploma or GED preferred (not required).
• Independent judgment and problem‑solving skills, applying grooming knowledge to a range of situations.
• Results‑driven with a commitment to productivity, performance, and ownership of role.
• Strong attention to detail, ensuring services are executed to the highest standard.
• Genuine passion for animals and desire to pursue a career in pet grooming.
• Expert knowledge of various dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues, and behaviors.
• Proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Capable of handling pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
• Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.

Work Environment

Pay Range

Salary Range: $15.00 – $25.00 per hour.
