About the Role

As a Pet Stylist at Petco, you will provide professional grooming services to our valued customers’ pets. You will ensure exceptional care, maintaining safety, comfort, and high customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning according to pet‑parent instructions and breed standards.
• Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
• Prioritize animal well‑being and safety, monitoring pets for signs of discomfort, illness, or injury and reporting concerns.
• Evaluate individual pet needs, taking coat type, skin condition, temperament into account.
• Provide excellent customer service, answering inquiries and offering grooming recommendations.
• Educate pet parents on grooming maintenance and at‑home care practices.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary grooming area; perform daily and weekly cleaning and sanitation per Petco hygiene policies.
• Follow and reinforce Petco’s grooming policies, standards, and guidelines.
• Support and supervise entry‑level trainees when needed.

Qualifications

• Completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or prior professional groomer experience and/or completion of a technical grooming training program.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Excellent judgment and problem‑solving skills in routine to moderately complex situations.
• Results‑driven, committed to productivity and performance.
• Strong attention to detail and passion for animals.
• Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues, behaviors, and breed‑specific cuts.
• Proficiency in styling techniques and grooming standards.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments.
• Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.

Work Environment

The role is performed indoors in the grooming salon. Duties involve bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and standing for long periods. Exposure to heights and loud, wet conditions may occur.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $15.00 – $25.00 per hour. Benefits include competitive base pay, medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, Petco discounts, all necessary supplies and equipment, and a Sign On Bonus available.
