Overall Job Summary
This position is responsible for enrolling & completing the Level 1 training course provided by Petsense, “Paragon,” in preparation for a career in grooming and bathing.
Paragon is a virtual, distant learning program where students undergo a 15-week training designed to teach fundamentals of bathing and grooming, safety, pet first aid and CPR, pet handling, dog anatomy, and physiology. Training includes hands-on practice, book work, online exams, videos, and photo submissions for grading.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Work scheduled shifts, including varied hours, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Support sales initiatives: thank customers, engage with pets and owners, advise on products/services, and create memorable experiences.
- Learn and perform grooming duties such as bathing, drying, brushing, trimming, nail and ear care, and basic clipper and finishing techniques.
- Ensure animal safety and well-being, including inspecting for health issues and practicing safety protocols.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of tools and work environment.
- Assist with customer service, record keeping, appointment scheduling, and follow-ups.
- Operate store equipment and handle store recovery if needed.
- Care for live animals and complete all related documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Comfort working with dogs and cats, demonstrating patience and compassion.
- Own grooming tools or willingness to purchase them.
- High school diploma or equivalent; ability to read, write, and count accurately.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency with grooming tools and equipment.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail, problem-solving, and basic computer skills.
- Ability to resolve issues ethically and with minimal conflict.
Working Conditions
- Indoor environment with moderate noise; exposure to grooming tools, pet waste, and wet conditions.
- Varied shifts, generally no less than 4 hours, possibly exceeding 8 hours.
- Safe and productive environment adhering to safety guidelines.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move and transfer animals and equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Stand for long periods, perform grooming tasks, and operate equipment.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, and lifting.
- Operate store equipment and communicate effectively.
