An established private sports horse stud seeks a full-time Groom to join their dedicated team. This role involves caring for mares, foals, and youngstock, ensuring high standards in all yard duties. Job description

Full-time experienced Groom required for private sports horse stud in a beautiful location 6 miles south of Bury St Edmunds. Easy access from the A14 and A134.

Regular Part-Time person also considered.

We are looking for someone reliable with a good sense of humour to join this small established team caring for mares, foals, youngstock and event horses up to 4*. The stud has excellent facilities which include the following:

  • Indoor and outside stables providing a good working environment
  • Lunge pen and 30 x 20 loose jumping school
  • Full size 80 x 40 outdoor arena
  • 8 Horse walker
  • 140 acres of grassland
  • All weather gallops and grass gallops
  • Canteen area and staff loo/wash area

The Position:

  • All yard duties to a high standard - mucking out, hays, waters, sweeping, tack cleaning etc.
  • Handling mares and foals, confidently and kindly on the ground
  • Assisting with AI
  • Clipping and plaiting
  • Turning out for competition and travelling with rider to some events
  • Keeping all areas clean, safe and tidy at all times
  • 5 day week which will include weekends on a rota basis.

The Person:

  • Reliable, punctual, enthusiastic with a genuine love of working with horses
  • Confident handling a variety of horses on the ground including cheeky foals
  • Will have excellent turnout skills - clipping, plaiting etc.
  • Will be a good team player, who can follow instructions and also use their own initiative when working alone
  • A lorry driver would be an advantage, but not a dealbreaker

A good salary will be offered to the successful person who can provide fully checkable references.

Shared accommodation could be available and own horse welcome.

Some shared commission on sales will be offered after 6 months of working at the stud.
