Grocery Lead Clerk (Sales)

Bring your cheerful, teamwork attitude to our shelves at Uncle Giuseppe's and become a Lead Grocery Clerk today! Our flagship store located in Melville is seeking an energetic Grocery Team Lead for its busy department.

Our Lead Grocery Clerks are responsible for monitoring grocery items, providing appropriate labels and price tags to all commodities, stacking goods on shelves, monitoring inventory, and maintaining shelf life in accordance with policies and procedures, following all NYS, federal, and local laws. This position will lead the team within the department, assisting with light management duties and functions.

Responsibilities

1. Properly stock retail shelves with products as directed by the Department Manager.
2. Assist the Department Manager with lead functions such as training, mentoring, and scheduling.
3. Safely and accurately restock product shelves.
4. Ensure products are front-facing and orderly, rotating stock as directed.
5. Interact with customers positively, providing excellent customer service.
6. Provide accurate information to customers on the location of items in store.
7. Work as a team to ensure products are properly stocked on shelves.
8. Perform other duties and functions as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must have at least 3 years of experience working in a busy Grocery Department.
• A desire to lead, teach by example, and mentor staff is essential.
• Ability to safely lift boxes over 30 pounds.
• Physically able to perform repetitive hand movements and reach shelves of varying heights.
• Comfortable and able to stand and climb ladders safely.
• Excellent customer service skills to work with diverse populations.
• Ability to speak, read, and understand English.
• Attention to detail and ability to learn store product locations.

Working Conditions

• Most time spent moving on hard surfaces, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping.
• May need to lift objects up to 30 pounds or more with assistance.
• Indoor environment with moving machinery and loud equipment, possibly requiring shouting to communicate.
• Exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and coolers.
• Occasional exposure to cleaning agents, sharp objects, and industrial equipment.
