Job Overview:

This role provides direction related to operations, processes, and conditions of their area. The manager plans, guides, and empowers team members in the day-to-day operation of the department. They set an example by modeling exceptional customer experience and work towards achieving department goals while influencing peers to create a continued winning strategy.

What you'll be doing:

  • Engaging peers to provide the best possible shopping experience for our customers, including an exceptional checkout experience.
  • Communicating with team members and assigning daily work tasks.
  • Mentoring and coaching team members to ensure customer service and sales goals are exceeded, and the area is maintained to Meijer standards, with team members completing required training.
  • Supporting training for new team members and cross-training high-potential talent, providing peer coaching on responsibilities and standards to positively impact productivity.
  • Collaborating with leadership on department scheduling to enhance team engagement, customer service, store sales, and profitability.
  • Monitoring product freshness by closely overseeing rotation and dating policies.
  • Guiding the team in compliance with food safety standards and regulations, working in a safe manner aligned with 200% accountability.
  • Leading team members in ordering, receiving, stocking, pricing, and product display where applicable.
  • Creating an environment that supports Meijer culture, including valuing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Operating a register and handling cash when needed.
  • Operating powered equipment where applicable.
  • Participating in period-end inventories to help achieve goals.
  • May act in Lead capacity in other departments as required.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for customer service with approachability and engagement.
  • Initiates interactions with customers and peers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Retail or customer service experience preferred.
  • Creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to influence others.
  • Ability to quickly build rapport and gain customer confidence.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, push, pull, bend, and twist while handling products.
  • Experience in executing plans.
  • Positive influence to foster a strong team environment.
