Reports to: Grocery Department Manager, Store Manager

Job Summary: Grocery Clerks are responsible for ensuring the grocery section of the store is well-stocked for our customers. S/he must assist in receiving, storing, and stocking of products while guaranteeing proper product rotation and quality.

S/he must be familiar with store products and their location in order to assist customers in finding items. As a PFM team member, s/he is able to exemplify Pete’s Four Pillars of Value: Aesthetic, Quality, and Customer Service.

Essential Job Responsibilities

1. Responsible for providing all guests with exceptional customer service.
2. Ensure all service standards are frequently met and often exceed company expectations.
3. Possess the knowledge and training of how to effectively use a scan gun and stock grocery department shelves.
4. Rotate and monitor for the expiration dates on product and signs, stocking and facing products in their department, build product displays, and handle product damages and credits according to company policy.
5. Complete all stocking and clean-up duties in an efficient and timely manner.
6. Assist with the actual store operation activities such as cleaning or hanging signs, depending upon business needs.
7. Assist in back-stock, and ensure the timely return of all items.
8. Other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications

High School Diploma or G.E.D. with 0-3 years of experience in grocery store or similar retail environment. Must have a valid and up to date Food Handler’s Certificate. Demonstrate knowledge of department functions.

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Must be capable of providing and modeling exceptional customer service.
2. Must have excellent communication skills in order to communicate effectively with customers, store leadership, and fellow team members.
3. Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently or in groups.

Work Environment/ Physical Demands

Must have the physical ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, climb, balance, stoop to grasp objects, kneel, crouch, crawl, frequently push/pull up to 100 lbs., frequently lift and/or move loads up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lift 75 lbs. Ability to enter the coolers and freezers thereby being subjected to and withstanding frequent temperature changes for extended periods of time. Occasional high stress when dealing with systems/customers/staff. Able to work a flexible schedule with various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as determined by the store/business needs and as required to ensure adequate store staffing. Must have reliable source of transportation.
